Quick Q&A: What to Do with a Continuously-Running Commode?

Quick Q:

My commode runs continuously.  I’ve already checked the flapper, and that seems OK.  What else could it be?

Quick A:

Good call on double-checking the flapper – many commode problems can be fixed with a new, properly-sized flapper.  If this doesn’t address the problem, the fill valve could be stuck in the open position allowing water to enter the tank continuously and out the overflow. The float that shuts the fill valve off could be damaged or may need adjusting. There is a repair kit available that includes the fill valve, float, flapper etc. which is fairly simple to install and available at most hardware stores.
