Having trouble matching different wood species?

Q.  I have bought a home that has cherry cabinets and we are planning to have oak hardwood floors stained cherry to match the cabinets.  Do you think it would look too dark? The floor plan is very open.

A. Whether you are having a contractor stain the floor for you, or you are doing it yourself, you should always “test” the stain first. Actually stain a sample of the flooring and match it to the cabinets to make sure it is what you were looking for. Any contractor should be happy to do this for you.
