Question: Selecting Furniture.

My condo has dark mocha walnut hardwood floors and matching cabinets with stainless steel appliances. The wall is painted in a taupe color. What kind of color scheme would you recommend when looking for furniture pieces (e.g. sofas)? Should they be dark like the floor or lighter like the walls? Thanks.

Answer.

When looking to purchase a significant piece of furniture, we might consider more simple patterns and neutral colors. You will want to be sure the color and style is something you will be comfortable with for some time. Add character, color, and style with your throw pillows. These are less expensive to change depending on your taste at a particular time. You might consider looking at lighter pieces of furniture to contrast against the walls, but be wary of purchasing sofas so similar in color to your walls that they appear lost.
