How often should air ducts be cleaned?

A general rule of thumb to go by as a homeowner is to consider duct cleaning every 3 – 5 years. However, those with allergies, pets, or smokers in the home, or other special circumstances may need duct cleaning more frequently to maintain their indoor air quality.

New home buyers should also consider duct cleaning before moving into a new home to ensure that there are no leftover construction particles or dust in the home’s vent system.

If you own a commercial business, manufacturing plant, or warehouse, the recommended air duct cleaning frequency is once a year or more. This is because certain facilities and businesses may be required to perform duct cleaning frequently in order to maintain a certain level of indoor air quality.
